Civil Legal Clinic
Support the Clinic
The Civil Legal Clinic at The University of Mississippi School of Law provides free legal services to residents of Lafayette and surrounding counties. The Civil Legal Clinic offers services and teaching in five main areas: child advocacy, housing, elder law, street law and low-income individual taxation.
Each clinic is staffed by law school students and carefully supervised by experienced attorneys.
The clinic’s goals are to assist persons unable to secure needed legal services and to instill in young lawyers the importance of maintaining a vital pro bono practice.
The Civil Legal Clinic operates on a modest annual budget, yet manages to train 50 students, serve approximately 100 clients and provide 8,000 student, attorney, and volunteer hours of free legal services each year. The clinic also is charged with fundraising a significant portion of its budget to continue its work each year.
You can support the Civil Legal Clinic’s mission by:
- Making a cash or in-kind donation to the clinic
- Sponsoring a student’s work for a semester
- Building your own pro bono practice in collaboration with the clinic
- Volunteering your valuable time and expertise on a specific clinic project
Donations to the Civil Legal Clinic are tax-deductible. For more information about how you can become involved in the clinic’s work or make a donation, please contact Clinic Director Desiree Hensley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
