Oral Arguments Before the Court of Appeals

April 25, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Student/lawyers in the Criminal Appeals Clinic will present oral arguments in the case of Welford Lee McCarty v. State of Mississippi, No. 2017-KA-00414-COA, a murder case involving issues of prosecutorial misconduct, including the use of more than two dozen gruesome photographs of a decomposed body that had been cut into seven pieces and sunk in a pond for almost two years. The Court of Appeals sits in a special session of court at the law school each spring as a part of their “On the Road” program, which is designed to bring the Court to the people of the State of Mississippi through special settings at as many as ten different locations a year. This year’s arguments mark the twelfth time the Court has traveled to the School of Law to hear arguments in Criminal Appeals Clinic cases. A second argument will be had in an unrelated case involving prisoner’s rights.
