Robert Mongue

Robert E. Mongue is an Associate Professor of Legal Studies at the University of Mississippi. He earned his Juris Doctorate from University of Maine School of Law and a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Mississippi. His research and teaching emphasizes paralegal practice, professionalism in the paralegal profession, the relationship between attorneys and paralegals, and paralegal licensing. He teaches a wide range of courses in law and ethics in the Paralegal Studies and Criminal Justice programs.

He has over thirty years of experience as a trial and appellate attorney in both state and federal courts. His practice emphasized litigation of contract, corporate dissolution, construction, real estate, trade secret, and non-competition disputes. He also provided arbitration, mediation and guardian-ad-litem services. Mr. Mongue’s practice also included representation of attorneys before the Maine Board of Bar Overseers and ethical issue counseling. His publications include “After Hours Ethics and the Maine Lawyer” in the Maine Bar Journal, (Fall, 2006)

Mr. Mongue is author of The Empowered Paralegal book series which began with The Empowered Paralegal: Effective, Efficient and Professional in 2009. The series now includes The Empowered Paralegal: Working with the Elder Client, The Empowered Paralegal Professionalism Anthology, and The Empowered Paralegal Cause of Action Handbook.  He has presented at national and regional conferences of the American Association for Paralegal Education as well as the Southern Gerontology Society and the Mississippi Philosophical Association.

Mr. Mongue serves as Secretary of the American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE) and Chair of the AAfPE Academic Research Forum. He serves on Advisory Council of the Organization of Legal Professionals, the New York City Paralegal Association’s Advisory Board, the Paralegal Today editorial board, and the International Interdisciplinary Advisory and Editorial Board.
