IPE Board Mock Trial Exhibition

October 23, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Interprofessional Education Board (IPE) is hosting a mock trial on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 9:00 am via Zoom that will involve active participation from the audience consisting of both law students and pharmacy students.

The trial focuses on a negligence/wrongful death action in Lafayette County involving a local pharmacy. The pharmacy intern allegedly incorrectly transcribed a patient’s prescription resulting in the pharmacy providing her an incorrect dosage and incorrect medication causing her death. Law students from the Board will be serving as attorneys representing the parties and pharmacy students will serve as expert witnesses.

All law and pharmacy students are invited to attend and will be placed in short breakout rooms to serve as jury members and decide a verdict at the conclusion of the trial. The winner of the trial will be the team with the most juries who vote in their favor based on the facts of the case.

This event provides an opportunity for both law and pharmacy students to collaborate to solve health-related issues in society as well as gain practical experience in their fields. The event is especially of interest to law students interested in health-related law or civil law, but students interested in any area of law will find they will benefit from this event and active participation.

The schedule of events is as follows:

9:00 am – Welcome Statements
9:15 am – Trial Begins
12:30 pm – Trial Ends and Break
1:00 pm – Juries Receive Instructions and Placed in Breakout Rooms
1:30 pm – Verdict
