Mississippi State Coach Mike Leach: Using a Law Degree in a Non-Legal Career

Everyone knows Mississippi State University Football Coach Mike Leach as the “king of the passing offense,” but fewer realize that Coach Leach earned a law degree from Pepperdine (J.D., 1986) prior to beginning his prolific coaching career.
Coach Leach will discuss his experiences to the University of Mississippi School of Law and selected invitees. In an outstanding example of rivalry hospitality, Ole Miss Football Head Coach Lane Kiffin will introduce the event.
Coach Leach has been very generous with his time, and he has told us how excited he is to be able to do this for the Ole Miss Law School. This is a great event, and we are so grateful to Coach Leach for this. Coach Kiffin joining to introduce and participate in any way was also so hospitable, and just the icing on the cake. As of now, we expect the format to be as follows (but it’s always subject to change with these two):
- Attendees log in and an event host will be visible and introduce the event briefly and hand the mic to Coach Kiffin. (10 minutes)
- Coach Kiffin and Coach Leach will “take the stage” and Coach Kiffin will introduce Coach Leach and hand the mic to Coach Leach for his talk.
- Coach Leach will give his talk; during this time attendees will be invited to use the Q&A feature to submit questions for consideration (30 minutes)
- Selected questions will be chosen by the host and asked to Coach Leach in an informal and conversational style (15 minutes)
- When the conversation ends of its own momentum, we will thank Coach Leach and the event will close

| How to Attend: | Attendance is by invitation only, and attendees must register in order to receive the Zoom Webinar link. The Webinar link will be emailed to registered attendees in the hour preceding the event. A registration form must be completed in order to receive an invitation link, and this form will first be sent to Ole Miss Law students and the coaches’ guests. Additional invitations may be offered available depending on initial registrations.

This event was made possible by the Business and Law Fellowship Advisory Board at the University of Mississippi School of Law. This Board supports and advises the school’s new and growing Business and Law Fellowship which caters to those law students who want a law degree but who may want to follow a non-traditional path beyond joining a law firm. These paths include everything from in-house corporate counsel to coaching SEC football.
The Fellowship pairs selected law students with partner corporations for summer externships and, more importantly, unparalleled experiences outside the law firm.
