Lunch and Learn: Trans 101
October 13, 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
UM ACLU & OUTLaw invite law students and faculty to a virtual discussion with ACLU Transgender Education and Advocacy Program (TEAP) Coordinator Jensen Matar. During this discussion, Jensen will provide information about what it means to be an ally and the legal hurdles encountered by transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.
A little background on our speaker: Jensen joined the ACLU of Mississippi in July 2018 as the Transgender Education & Advocacy Program (TEAP-MS) Coordinator. In 2017, he received the ACLU of MS Freedom of Speech award for his dedication and commitment to the TEAP-MS program as a key leader. Some of his volunteer efforts included publishing the first-ever opinion editorial from a trans man about trans living in Mississippi in the Clarion Ledger and testifying during the legislative hearing on trans rights. Jensen has been a vital contributor in the fight for reducing discrimination faced by transgender and gender non-conforming people of Mississippi.
