SCOTUS Appointment and Confirmation: The History, The Process, and What to Expect in the Coming Weeks

October 12, 2020 @ 12:45 pm - 1:30 pm

With Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s recent passing, President Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill her seat on the Supreme Court. On Monday, October 12, the Senate will begin the confirmation hearings for Judge Barrett. With Election Day less than one month away, the proceedings will move quickly and it is important to understand the history, the process, and what to expect.
Please join us to hear from Attorney Luther T. Munford, a former clerk to the Honorable Harry A. Blackmun on the U.S. Supreme Court, is of counsel with Butler Snow and a member of the firm’s Appellate and Written Advocacy Group. Attorney Munford will discuss such topics as the history of judicial selection, past appointments, the composition of the Court, and possible reform moving forward. Students are encouraged to submit questions prior to this event (to bebarbee@olemiss.edu) which will be woven into the presentation. Also, there will be a time for questions toward the end of the presentation. See you then!
