Professor Duran teaches courses in the federal tax law area, including individual income tax, taxation of corporations and shareholders, advanced individual income tax and U.S. international tax.
Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Duran was a partner at Manatt Phelps & Phillips, LLP in Los Angeles, California. As a member of the firm’s tax, employee benefits and executive compensation practice group, he advised clients about a wide range of business and tax matters, including taxation of cross-border transactions, with an emphasis on Mexico and Latin America. Since 2005, he has also been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, where he teaches Corporate and Individual Income Tax. He is also a regular presenter at the Hawaii Tax Institute, lecturing on international tax subjects.
Professor Duran holds an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University. He received his J.D. from Santa Clara University and B.A. in Business Administration from California State University.
