An alumnus of the University of Mississippi School of Law has been inducted into the Ole Miss Alumni Association Hall of Fame this weekend.
Ole Miss Law graduate, Robert R. “Bobby” Bailess (J.D. 1976), was inducted into Ole Miss Alumni Association Hall of Fame on Thursday Sept. 26. He is being honored as part of the Homecoming festivities this week. Bailess, along with four other university graduates, are recipients of this Distinguished Alumni Award.
“I am truly humbled to be included in present company, as well as those previously inducted,” said Bailess. “It is an unexpected and overwhelming honor that is very much appreciated.”
The Ole Miss Alumni Association Hall of Fame started on Oct. 19, 1974, and this year will mark the 50th anniversary of the award.
The Hall of Fame honors notable Ole Miss alumni who have gone above and beyond in their service to the state, country, or university.
Bailess has been highly involved with UM and was awarded the 2009 Law Alumnus of the Year Award. He is also a past president of the Law Alumni Chapter after being elected president of the Mississippi Bar Association. Following his award, Bailess became a board member and chairman of the University of Mississippi Foundation. He then became president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association in 2017 – 2018 and has been on the executive committee ever since.
Outside of Ole Miss, Bailess has been very present and involved with his own community in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is a member of the Crawford Street United Methodist Church and has been a part of countless committees. Some of the notable committees include being a member of the board of trustees and as chairman of the administrative board.
