SBA to Host Second Annual Golf Tournament March 17

The University of Mississippi Law Student Bar Association will host its second annual golf tournament March 17 at the Country Club of Oxford.

Entries for the tournament, which is a four-person scramble, are still open. The cost is $500 for a team or $125 for an individual. The registration covers green and cart fees, lunch, and beverages. Day of registration will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a buffet lunch at 11 a.m. The tournament begins at noon. Anyone interested in participating can register at https://ignite.olemiss.edu/project/45643/donate

All proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit the SBA general fund, which provides support for registered student organizations and student expenses. The fund helps support guest speaker events, pro bono opportunities, and other student activities.

“What makes this tournament special is that it’s entirely student-operated with the help of our amazing faculty and development team to help spread the word,” said Brooks Payne, SBA President. “It demonstrates the SBA’s mission to put the student experience first through different initiatives such as this. All proceeds go toward the School of Law’s SBA fund, which helps us enhance the student experience through various programming and resources.”

In addition to benefiting the SBA general fund, the tournament provides a unique opportunity for current students to network with alumni.

“The relationships built on the golf course lead to mentorships and career opportunities for our students, which is just as valuable as the funds we raise,” Payne said.

There are also still opportunities to become a sponsor of the tournament. Current gold level sponsors include: Yates Construction, Southland Title, Inc., Chick-Fil-A Oxford, Themis Bar Review, Thompson Cat Oxford, Watkins & Eager, Young Wells Williams, P.A., and Barbri. The sponsorship opportunities are tax deductible. Information about sponsorship levels can be found here.

“We are so excited to have the golf tournament in Oxford this year,” said Julia Banks, third-year law student and SBA’s director of philanthropy. “Planning it and seeing it grow has been an amazing experience. The funds raised from this event goes to providing student opportunities for everyone at Ole Miss Law and we are very grateful to everyone involved.”
