OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Mississippi Schools of Law and Pharmacy have worked closely together for the past two years to conduct a mock trial involving a pharmacy prescription malpractice case. This effort is a part of the Law School’s and the Pharmacy School’s decision to work together on interprofesssional education programs (IPE) to benefit both law and pharmacy students.
UM Law and UM Pharmacy will continue that partnership through the introduction of the IPE Student Board, which will be comprised of law students, pharmacy students and students from other schools.
Professor of Law Larry J. Pittman and Dr. Kim Adcock, Professor of Pharmacy, who are the representatives for their schools, will host an informational session Wednesday, March 6 at 12:30 p.m. in room 2084 for law students and pharmacy students interested in joining the IPE Student Board.
The Board will have two primary functions: it will draft the problem for the annual mock trial and conduct that trial, with the law students playing the role of attorneys and the pharmacy students playing the role of witnesses; and, the board will also invite speakers and organize conferences on issues involving the intersection of law, pharmacy and medicine.
Its members will have an opportunity to develop the Board from the ground up, including selecting functions and programs in addition to the ones stated above.
The Board will have officers and operate similar to other boards at the law school. And, it will seek approval for granting credit towards graduation as other boards grant credit.
This proposed board may be of interest to those law students who have:
- A general interest in law, pharmacy, and medicine issues;
- An interest in working with other professional students;
- A desire to be an active part of an organization that will offer leadership opportunities;
- A desire to develop some trial skills in the context of a pharmacy or medical malpractice case;
- A desire to develop interpersonal and organizational skills by organizing speakers and conferences involving law, pharmacy and medicine issues; and
- A desire to use creative skills to help develop a student board from the ground up, including creating new functions and programing for the board.
Students interested in becoming a member of the IPE Student Board are encouraged to attend the informational meeting Wednesday, March 6 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in room 2084 of the Law School.
