- HBCU Law Preview Day
- In October of 2021, UM Law hosted a successful Inaugural HBCU Preview Day at the law school. Forty-six students and visiting faculty/staff from HBCUs in Mississippi, including Jackson State University, Rust College, Mississippi Valley State University, and Alcorn State University. Others in attendance included Law School Diversity Council members, current law students, recent HBCU/Law alumni, law school faculty and staff, the University’s Chancellor, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. We had a total attendance of seventy-three. Throughout the day, students learned about the admissions process, participated in a mock class, toured the school, and heard from a diversity panel consisting of HBCU alumni who are UM law students or recent graduates.
- During our 2nd Annual HBCU Law Preview Day at The University of Mississippi School of Law, our recruitment efforts expanded to include additional HBCUs within the southern region. In comparison, we increased from four HBCUs to ten HBCUs and from forty-six students to seventy-eight students. In support of the two-day event, a number of regional law firms sponsored different programs during the event.
- HBCU Pre-Law Tour
- UM Law is committed to expanding its pipeline programs by including numerous HBCUs in the southern region. This year we visited and started developing relationships with students at twelve HBCUs in that region. Each year during Black History Month, the Law School cultivates many relationships with HBCUs and their respective pre-law advisors across the southern region.
