Prior to returning to the full-time faculty of the University of Mississippi School of Law, Richard Gershon served as dean of the law school from 2010-2015. Before moving to Mississippi, he was the founding dean of the Charleston School of Law, and he served as dean of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in Fort Worth Texas. Professor Gershon was on the faculty at Stetson University School of Law from 1984-1998, and he was the Academic Associate Dean of that law school from 1988-1992.
A graduate of the University of Georgia (BA 1979), the University of Tennessee (JD 1982), and the University of Florida (LLM Taxation 1983), Professor Gershon is the author of several books and articles on taxation and legal education, and is a co-author contributing annual updates to Attorney Client Privilege in The United States. In 2019 he published the seventh edition of “A Student’s Guide to the Internal Revenue Code (with Professor Jeffrey A. Maine).
Richard is a member of the Florida and Georgia Bars, and he served as chair of the Law and Socioeconomics Section of the American Association of Law Schools (AALS). He co-chairs the Faculty Recruitment Committee of SEALS.
