Students assigned to District Attorneys Office in the 3rd Circuit work with Assistant District Attorneys and staff as they investigate, prepare, charge, and prosecute felony criminal cases. Third year students assigned as prosecutor externs can be sworn in as limited practice students and often have the opportunity to appear and speak in court. Additionally, unique to Mississippi, and when appropriate, students may also participate in the grand jury charging process. Students can expect to be exposed to and learn about how to put a case together, provide discovery, charge, negotiate, and try criminal cases. Students assigned to the 3rd Circuit District Attorney, typically work out of the Oxford office, but also have the opportunity to travel to courthouses in the seven counties encompassing the 3rd Circuit.
