Students assigned to District Attorney General Office in Memphis, Tennessee can expect to work with Assistant District Attorneys and staff as they investigate, prepare, charge, and prosecute felony criminal cases. Third year students assigned as prosecutor externs can be sworn in as limited practice students and often have the opportunity to appear and speak in court. This is a high volume prosecutor’s office in a large metropolitan area. Students should expect to be exposed to and learn about how to put a case together, provide discovery, charge, negotiate, and try criminal cases, as well as develop familiarity with Tennessee criminal law and procedure.
